‘The Bachelor’: Now that really hurt

This is turning out to be a tough season on “The Bachelor,” with the injury rate looking more appropriate for an NFL season.

First it was Tierra taking a header on the stairs, then Monday night featured Orange County’s very own Amanda Meyer hitting the deck chin first in a roller-derby group date.

Even if you hadn’t seen the previews, it was obvious someone was going to get hurt in this ill-chosen activity. (And it didn’t even have any product placement to go with it!) The women could barely stay upright, and an afternoon of blindfolded skeet shooting probably would have been safer.

Luckily, Amanda wasn’t badly injured, and after a quick trip to the hospital she was back in time for cocktails.

Even luckier for Amanda, she was eliminated at the Rose Ceremony, sparing her the further embarrassment of continuing on in this season’s particularly dull cliche festival.

This might well be the best-looking cast of “The Bachelor” ever, but it is having a hard time generating much in the way of drama or amusement, even by the series impossibly low standard.

Tierra makes for a particularly weak villain, and the rest of the bachelorette class is pretty flat. (Personalitywise, that is, not, you know …) And of course there is Sean “You ladies are all fantastic and I believe I am going to find the person I will spend the rest of my life with,” who registers as close to zero on the personality meter. (In truth, he is certainly a much more interesting person in real life, as the Jeep stick-shift outtake at the end of Monday’s episode indicated.)

And the certain winner – you all knew who it would be the second she got out of the limo, right? – probably ranks even lower than Sean in terms of TV sparkle. Of course, she doesn’t need as much as the woman who will become the next “Bachelorette.” I have no idea who that will be yet, but at this point I am betting on Lindsay or Desiree.
